My story.... |

How I Became a Women’s Wellness Coach I’ve always been interested in food and nutrition. I grew up in a household where health and nutrition were the foundation of our meals. (My parents were health nuts before it was popular.) In my college days at the University of Vermont, I studied Environmental Science and wrote my thesis on world nutrition and hunger issues. As I raised my children, I co-owned and operated a bookstore, which encouraged me to continue to study nutrition and experiment with my family. I have always been one of those people who read nutrition books for fun. It wasn’t until I turned 40 that I began to take my passion seriously I had always been athletic--an active kid, a competitive skier in college and avid runner and hiker--well into adulthood. So it was odd when I started to feel consistently run down, spacey and profoundly exhausted. A Debilitating Case of Chronic Fatigue I tried to push myself harder, thinking I just needed to find a new exercise regime. But I soon found that I could barely stay up past 8 pm. I was going to bed earlier, and sleeping later, yet all of my favorite activities, such as gardening and being outdoors, started to fall away, one by one. It was all I could do just to get the basic necessities done in my life. When I consulted a doctor about it, he suggested it may be a problem with hormones or depression, but I just knew there was more to it than that. And so began a five-year trek from one professional to the next, from one health guru to the next health fad, looking for answers. I tried everything, and while some things helped in the short-term, nothing made a long-lasting change in how I felt. I felt completely alone with my symptoms and I had no one to turn to. When Real Healing Happened It wasn’t until I decided to take my healing search inward, seeking my own insight and wisdom into my well-being, that I started to notice an improvement. Essentially, I took 100% responsibility for my life. I hungrily read everything I could get my hands on in hopes of finding a solution. When a blood test from a holistic clinical nutritionist suggested I needed to treat myself for chronic infections, I felt a major piece of the puzzle fall into place. By implementing my own natural healing plan using nutritious food, allowing myself proper rest (instead of fighting it every step of the way) and implementing several life-enhancing strategies, a healing path was created. Fast Forward to 2006 During those years of study and healing, I opened a specialty nutrition and herbal supplement store in my area. It grew into a successful venue, which I then sold four years later to a larger health food store. I continued working with the new owners for a time, to help them transition their own supplements department into the best in the area. However, I knew I wanted to continue my passion for sharing information on health and nutrition, but on a much deeper and more meaningful level then what was possible in a supplements store. That’s when I found the most amazing school in the world. Transforming My Knowledge into Life Changing Health Counseling Services After a lot of research into all the best nutrition and holistic healing schools, I chose to attend a year-long program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Every three weeks, I flew to New York City to attend classes and gain certification in holistic health counseling. It was here that I was able to synthesize my years of study, experience, and first-hand knowledge into powerful programs which help people decipher what foods and lifestyle choices are right for them. Making a Difference as a Certified Holistic Health Counselor I’m happy to report that my clients are experiencing profound results and my practice is growing steadily. Clients use a Health Counselor for a variety of reasons:

And that’s why I now call myself a Women’s Wellness Coach. It’s a spirited combination of a life strategist, resource guide, accountability partner, supporter, health educator and nutrition consultant. As a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which is affiliated with Columbia University Teacher's College, I am a Certified Holistic Health Counselor (H.H.C.), through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I’m also constantly undertaking additional training in the field of health transformation, personal growth and food therapy, to continue to grow my skills.
